Election panel laurels for IPS officers

Bettiah, Jan. 22: The superintendent of police (SP), West Champaran, Nishant Kumar Tewari is one of the four Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the country who will be felicitated on the eve of the diamond jubilee celebration of the Election Commission of India at New Delhi on January 25 this year.

President Pratibha Patil will felicitate Tewari at a function in Hotel Taj, New Delhi, according to a letter from the Election Commission of India received here yesterday.

Prior to this, Tewari would also attend a meeting at the national capital on the 23rd of this month, which is to be attended by eminent dignitaries.

Sources said of the four zones comprising 35 states in the country, the Election Commission of India recommended the name of the Bettiah superintendent of police from the eastern zone for his performance and management of the central paramilitary forces during the Bihar Assembly elections last year.

Tewari has also received the National Level Science Talent Search Examination scholarship in 1994 and the prestigious President of India Cup apart from the Prime Minister’s Award in 2006.

Even as a student, Tewari has received a number of prestigious awards and laurels during his academic career.
