Bihar would introduce smart cards for inmates of 56 jails across the state.
Christened e-Prisons, Bihar, the smart cards would not only provide detailed information about the prisoners but also facilitate them to buy food and other items from respective jail canteens.
Inspector-general (prisons and correctional measures) Anand Kishor said: “The smart cards would be provided to the prisoners across the state soon. The new system would be implemented in two phases.”
Kishor added that in the first phase, the inmates of the Beur Central Jail would be provided the facility. Later, it would be extended to other jails, he said, adding that the Beur Central Jail project would cost around Rs 22.81 lakh.
Bihar State Electronic Development Corporation (Beltron) has been assigned the work.
