Motihari, July 14: Bulls and cows will no more disrupt traffic on the streets. As a part of its plan to beautify the town, Motihari Nagar Parishad is set to launch a drive tomorrow to remove stray animals from the roads.

Mohibul Haque Khan, vice-chairperson, Motihari Nagar Parishad, told The Telegraph: “Vagrant cattle often loiter on the streets and frequently disrupt traffic. They even lead to snarls. The cows that will be caught on the roads will be kept in the government-owned cowshed till the owners claim it. The owner would have to pay a fine to claim their animals.”

He added that the primary focus of the drive would be removal of stray pigs that are responsible not only for littering but also spreading encephalitis.

Dr Ashok Sharan, a medical practitioner, hailed the move of the civic body and said pigs often carried the virus of encephalitis fever that is transmitted to humans through culex mosquito.

Khan said: “Around 30 pig farmers in and around the town have been identified. They have been given a 48-hour deadline to vaccinate their animals against the disease.”

In its 10-day-long drive against stray animals last month, the civic body had removed 30 animals from the streets. Around Rs 9,000 was collected as fine from their owners.
