Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday said he was in favour of dress codes in educational institutions but was not against jeans.
“Universities, colleges, and even offices can have their respective dress codes. Such codes are in place at many offices and institutions. Dress code is also maintained at the Rashtrapati Bhavan during swearing-in ceremonies,” he told reporters on the sidelines of his weekly janata durbar.
“I am in favour of jeans. But if you ask me if jeans is provocative, I would say provocation has to do with a person’s psychology and not with dress,” Modi said.
His statement comes in the wake of a recent order by Magadh Mahila College, banning jeans and sleeveless tops and kurtas on the campus.
The Magadh Mahila College has become the second institution affiliated to Patna University after Patna Women’s College to issue such a directive.
On Team Anna’s decision to enter politics, the deputy chief minister said: “Everyone has the right to form a political party. But I don’t think that Team Anna should float a party. Launching a party is one thing but offering a political alternative is completely a different thing. It would be a politically wrong move if Team Anna floats a party.”
