Last day, super show. Outgoing senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar on Sunday claimed to have cracked two important cases, including the murder of a property dealer.
Promoted to the rank of deputy inspector-general, Kumar would be posted in Saran. Siwan superintendent of police Amrit Raj will be his replacement.
Kumar is among the 58 officers transferred on Saturday.
Last day in office, the outgoing SSP talked to reporters about the police mechanism of keeping a tab on criminal activities in and around Patna district. He also briefed about the arrest of Pappu Mian alias Shahzada and Pappu Yadav, allegedly involved in more than a dozen criminal cases in the Patna City area. But he did not utter a word on his transfer.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Patna police went to Bengal. Mian and Yadav were arrested from South 24 Parganas district. Ten mobile handsets, fake voter identity cards, fake driving licence and SIMs were recovered from them.
Kumar said: “Based on the mobile location of Mian and Yadav it was found that both the criminals were hiding at South 24 Parganas district. A team led by Patna City deputy superintendent of police Sushil Kumar was constituted for the arrest of the two hardened criminals.”
Mian, the SSP said, confessed during the interrogation that he was involved in 17 cases, including eight murders, in the jurisdiction of different police stations in Patna district.
Mian was the prime suspect in four murder cases, including the murder of property dealer Noman Mian, six months ago.
Yadav was a close associate of Mian. He was involved in more than a dozen criminal cases, including six murders.
The senior officer said the arrest of the two hardened criminals would put a check on crime in the Patna City area.
Kumar said five others were arrested for duping people promising to double their money.
Tej Bhadur Pandit, Chandrashekhar, Ajay Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Hariram Paswan used to target innocent people near railway stations.
