Patna/Chhapra, June 5: Admitting serious lapses on the part of the Gopalganj jail administration and larger conspiracy behind the brutal murder of doctor Budhdeo Singh, chief minister Nitish Kumar today recommended a CBI probe into the case.

Nitish made the recommendation after going through the report of the state home secretary Amir Subhani and meeting the family members of the slain doctor, accompanied by state labour resources development minister and Chhapra BJP MLA Janardan Singh Sigriwal as well as science and technology minister Gautam Singh. Claiming that there was “conspiracy” behind the murder, Singh’s kin requested Nitish to recommend a high-level probe (CBI) into the case. Subhani’s report listed serious lapses on the part of the jail and the district administration in the case.

Singh, a doctor posted at Gopalganj district jail, was severely beaten to death last Sunday by Ranjan Yadav and his six accomplices, serving life imprisonment in a kidnapping and murder case, after the doctor refused them fake medical certificates.

Sigriwal, who had accompanied Singh’s family members to the chief minister’s residence, told The Telegraph: “The chief minister agreed for the CBI probe because it is not an ordinary murder. The chief minister wants probe in each aspect of the case.”

The family members of the slain doctor today withdrew their self-immolation threat in front of the chief minister’s residence after getting an assurance from Nitish for a CBI probe. Earlier, they had threatened to immolate themselves before the chief minister’s residence if the state government did not recommend a CBI probe by June 11.

Full pension

Sigriwal said the state government has decided to provide full pension to the widow of the slain doctor. Usually, the pension is reduced after the death of a government employee.
