Police and the district administration on Friday chalked out the strategy to manage traffic as well as maintain law and order during the RJD’s Parivartan Rally at Gandhi Maidan from 1pm on May 15 — a working day.
Several traffic diversions would be enforced and additional policemen would be deployed in the city on the rally day. The dual responsibilities of the cops would be to manage traffic and keep an eye on the crowd, coming to the city to listen to the RJD boss, Lalu Prasad.
Watchtowers would be erected around the Gandhi Maidan and roads adjacent to the ground would be out of bounds for the traffic. Vehicles would not be allowed to go towards the Gandhi Maidan from the Income Tax roundabout. Nothing would be allowed beyond the Patna College on the Ashok Rajpath.
Senior RJD leaders, the district administration and the police officers took part in a meeting on Friday morning to discuss the measures mandatory for holding the rally peacefully. Patna city superintendent of police (SP) Jayant Kant, the RJD leaders and the district administration officials went to the Gandhi Maidan to check the preparations.
Kant said: “The rally is on a working day. So, the police and the administration have to be careful.”
Gates have been earmarked for different categories of people. “The gates near the Twin Towers, Ram Ghulam Chowk, Udyog Bhavan and the Police Control Room would be open to the common people. The gate in front of the Biscauman Towers would be used by the mediapersons. The RJD leaders would enter through the gate in front of the State Bank of India,” the SP said.
After a meeting between the police and the district administration late in the evening, an official said: “The vehicles from the Danapur area have to be parked at the Veterinary College grounds. The Transport Nagar area has been earmarked for the vehicles from Fatuha. Those coming from the New Bypass area would have to park their transports at and around the Mithapur bus stand.”
