Patna: Nalanda University vice-chancellor Sunaina Singh was conferred with the International Education Award-2018 at the "World Education Summit" organised by the NRI Welfare Society of India at the House of Lords in London on April 19.
Professor Singh was among 26 persons honoured at the event. "It is an honour to receive the award," she said. "This is an acknowledgement of Nalanda University's unique mandate as an avant-garde institution. With the support of ministry of external affairs and Bihar government, Nalanda University is on a growth trajectory to establish itself as a global knowledge centre and thought leader." The university presently runs three schools: school of ecology & environment studies; school of historical studies; and the school of Buddhist studies, philosophy and comparative religion.
From the next academic session, the university is going to launch the school of languages & literature/humanities. Unlike the three other schools that offer degree courses, the new school will offer a diploma course. "Korean, Sanskrit and Japanese languages will be taught in the new school," said a senior Nalanda University faculty member.
