Detention in petrol pump loot case

Narkatiaganj police in West Champaran on Sunday picked up two men for interrogation in the Saturday incident in which two persons suffered gunshot injuries in an attack on a petrol pump at Majhariya village under Narkatiaganj police station limits.

Bettiah: Narkatiaganj police in West Champaran on Sunday picked up two men for interrogation in the Saturday incident in which two persons suffered gunshot injuries in an attack on a petrol pump at Majhariya village under Narkatiaganj police station limits.

The criminals also looted Rs 68, 000 from the duo.

When contacted, officer-in-charge of Narkatiaganj police station Jitendra Prasad said: "Two persons have been taken into custody for interrogation."

Police have named the two men as Ashok Baitha, a petrol pump operator, and Mohammad Javed, the excavator driver. The duo are recuperating at a government hospital in Bettiah. While Bhaitha has suffered the injuries in his abdomen, Javed suffered wounds in his private parts.

Eyewitnesses told police that four criminals on two motorbikes reached the petrol station around 8.15pm and engaged operator Bhaitha in an altercation. Soon, one of them shot at Baitha and fired several rounds in which an operator suffered bullet injuries. "The criminals looted Rs 60,000 from the petrol pump operator and forced the excavator driver to hand over Rs 8,000 to them," said officer-in-charge of Narkatiaganj police station.
