A Delhi-bound Air India flight aborted take-off on Wednesday afternoon following some sparks and noises in its right engine.
Sources said the 110 passengers on board were visibly scared when they came out of the flight (407/408) after it was grounded at Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport. Some of them were flown to Delhi in Air India’s evening flight. The rest would fly to the national capital in the airline’s morning flight on Thursday.
An airport official said: “After completing the taxiing, the aircraft had reached the threshold point on the runway and it was ready for the take-off. Suddenly, there were some sparks in the engine. Three to four deafening noises followed. Immediately, the engine was stopped and the flight came to a standstill.”
Fire tenders were rushed to the runway.
“As soon as the door of the aircraft opened, the passengers started running out. Few even left behind their cabin luggage. There was chaos at the terminal building for around an hour after the incident,” the official added.
None of the Air India officials responded to the calls made by The Telegraph.
A team of technical experts of Air India from New Delhi is expected to arrive in Patna on Thursday for a detailed inspection on the flight.
The flight — an Airbus 320 — reaches Patna at 2.35pm and leaves for Delhi at 3.15pm.
