| JD Women’s College student Kavita Kumari makes a point at a debate on Monday. Organised by the economics department of the institution, the topic for the debate was foreign direct investment in retail. Fifty students took part in the event. Speaking in favour of the motion, Kavita said: “I would love to see a Walmart store in Patna. Who would not like to buy different kinds of products at affordable rates? The decision of the Union government to allow FDI in retail is consumer-friendly.” Rita Bhagat, the head of the economics department, said: “This is a subject related to economics. So, we decided to organise a debate on it.” Text by Shuchismita Chakraborty, picture by Jai Prakash |
