Gopalganj, Dec. 13: Four months after 14-year-old Meena Kumari (name changed) died under mysterious circumstances, the police, on court order, have initiated an investigation into the case.

Meena, a Class VIII student of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School at Manjha block, about 12km from the district headquarters, died on August 11.

Her mother alleged that Meena was raped and then murdered. However, at that time, the police refused to entertain her FIR against Gautam Manjhi, the principal of an adjoining government school and also the in-charge of the residential school where Meena studied.

On Monday, an FIR was formally lodged against Manjhi and four others on the order of the chief judicial magistrate. According to the FIR lodged by the mother, her daughter was sexually exploited, forced to have an abortion and finally poisoned to death.

The FIR also said that Meena fell ill in the school in August, but instead of taking the girl to a government hospital, she was taken to an alleged quack, A. Haque, for treatment.

The mother also alleged that Meena suffered severe stomach ache when the quack aborted the child. Further, on the insistence of Manjhi, she was poisoned to death, the mother said, accusing Manjhi of shooting a pornographic film with Meena in which Haque lent a helping hand. Five persons, including Manjhi, Kasturba school warden Ramkala Gupta and Haque, have been made accused in the FIR.

Manjha police station in-charge Kumar Sanjay said a post-mortem was conducted on the girl but its findings were not clear. “Now, her viscera has been sent to the forensic lab in Patna and we are waiting for the report,” Sanjay said.
