It's a double whammy for DAV BSEB School.

After being de-affiliated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in May last year, the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) has now sent a letter to the school asking it to vacate the premises by June 1 if it fails to get a re-affiliation.

The CBSE had de-affiliated the school after it violated the board's norms. As claimed by school principal V.S. Ojha, the administration did try to better its image by removing the then principal Ramanuj Prasad and minimising the number of students and sections in classes IX to XII. It also increased the number of teachers to 185, including 29 on ad-hoc basis. The school did not admit students in Class XI as well, per the board's instructions. The school applied for a re-affiliation in August last year. In February this year, the board officials inspected the school and presented a report to the board's affiliation unit. The school is yet to get an affiliation nod.

Ojha said the management is trying to rectify the errors it made in the past few years. "The letter was sent by the power holding company two days back. We are hoping to get the affiliation letter from CBSE by the end of this month," he added. However, he did not elaborate the details of the termination letter.

The school runs on the land and building provided by BSPHCL. The notice has left the school management in lurch, as the DAV College Managing Committee (CMC) would lose one of its premier schools if CBSE doesn't re-affiliate the school.

More than 75 per cent of the students are wards of the employees of BSPHCL.

The general manager (HR) of BSPHCL, Rajiv Ranjan, said: "After the school lost its affiliation, we sent a notice to the then acting principal Indrajeet Rai but he did not revert to the letter. Later, we sent a termination letter to DAV CMC in July last year." Indrajeet filed a complaint against BSPHCL challenging the company's decision.

"In February 2016, the court rejected their (Indrajeet's) case. We waited till the board exams were over and then sent a termination letter to DAV CMC and the principal to vacate the school premises by June 1. We are looking for another owner to take over the school's responsibilities. If we fail to find any, BSPHCL will run the school," said Ranjan.

He also assured that the students' future wouldn't be hampered. "The registration for Class IX will start from August and classes will commence once we get an affiliation or a new owner."
