Patna, Dec.15: A 20-year-old woman has accused the husband of a JD(U) leader at Sitamarhi of sexually assaulting her.

The victim, a resident of Kachor village under Sonbarsa police station, has submitted a written complaint to the superintendent of police, alleging sexual assault by Surajbhan Gupta, husband of Kiran Gupta. Kiran is the district president of the JD(U)’s woman cell.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that Gupta had called her to his Kot Bazar residence under Town police station on November 21 on the pretext of settling a dispute between her and her husband.

“Surajbhan had taken me to a room on the roof of his house on the pretext of discussing the issue and bolted it from inside. He then outraged my modesty,” she alleged in her complaint.

She also held Kiran “equally responsible” for the crime.

Sitamarhi superintendent of police (SP) Vivek Kumar said the victim, accompanied by her mother, visited his office today.

“I have asked the Sadar sub-divisional police officer to probe into the allegations,” he said.

Kiran, however, rubbished the allegation and defended her husband. “It is true that she had visited our house a few weeks ago, seeking our intervention in settling her dispute with her husband. But she is now trying to tarnish my image by dragging my husband’s name in a controversy,” she said.

“She is accusing my husband at the behest of my political rivals,” Kiran added.
