Patna, June 13: The civil society’s role in curbing corruption has set the alarm bells ringing in the political circuit.

This, at least, appears to be the case with the BJP, which feels that if political parties fail to join the civil society on such issues, the day is not far when their existence would be at stake.

“It is high time that political parties catch the signals emanating from the civil society, otherwise the people of the country would reject them,” BJP Bihar unit president C.P. Thakur told journalists at a news meet at the party office here today.

Thakur was speaking with reference to the corruption issue, which has brought together people from all spheres, including the likes of Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev.

He said: “If civil societies keep playing important roles in all issues then the political parties will automatically fall down in front of the people. If it happens then that day is not far away when the relevance of political parties in a nation will be finished.”

Commenting on the issue of corruption, Thakur said: “The present scenario in the country with regard to corruption is terrible. People are protesting from all quarters except political parties.”

To maximise the crusade against corruption, the BJP will organise meeting in five districts including Darbhanga and Gaya on June 24, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur on June 25 and in Patna on June 27.

“The BJP will hold meeting in all these districts to take the campaign against corruption on a bigger level. Later, similar meetings will be held at block and panchayat-level,” Thakur said.
