Patna: Police have busted a gang of robbers involved in a series of loot incidents on trains and highways.

The gang, led by Mohammed Shabbir, targeted trains passing though Bakhtiyarpur and Khusrupur and was involved in robberies on Budh Purnima Express, Tilaiya-Danapur Passenger and others in March, posing a big challenge for Patna police. It also looted several small vehicles on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur highway.

Patna police had formed a team with officers from Bakhtiyarpur, Khusrupur, Athmalgola and other adjoining police stations to nab the gang. Based on intelligence inputs, they identified Mohammed Shabbir's gang behind the attacks. The team got to know that some gang members had assembled at Bada Haspur and were plotting other loots.

They raided Bada Haspur. A police officer on condition of anonymity said: "The robbers' gang fired on the police team. But after a brief encounter, the robbers surrendered."

Apart from Shabbir, other gang members were identified as Mohammed Aslam, Bholu Yadav, Shambhu Yadav and Vikash Kumar.
