District senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar has ordered non-payment of this month’s salary to 14 station house officers (SHOs) for allegedly not cooperating with him in arresting criminals, who call the shots after walking free on bail.
The officer took the step after he allegedly received no help from the SHOs to nab the criminals. He asked deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Arshad Zama to stop their salary.
The SSP has also slapped showcause notices on the erring officers, asking them to reply within a fortnight. Acting on reports of other SHOs, Kumar has furnished details of bail procured by the criminals and requested the high court to cancel bail of 12 criminals. He has sent a proposal to the police headquarters.
Sources said the criminals had received bail from the district courts or the high court. “Their presence outside prison has created a security threat,” said the SSP.
Sources added the police have recorded statements by persons who received threats from the criminals to change their statements.
The police have requested bail cancellation of Sonu Thakur, Randhir Bhagat, Sanjay Bhagat, Bhigon Rai, Naresh Sahni, Harendra Rai, Arjun Rai, Tribhuvan Sahni, Mohammad Quais, Pankaj Kumar Mishra, Chunnu Thakur and Gonor Sahni.
