Patna, Jan. 9: Governor and chancellor of universities in the state, Devanand Konwar, today laid stress on quality education saying only good teachers can ensure good students.

He was addressing a gathering of teachers and students at the foundation-laying ceremony of new administrative block at AN College.

The new administrative block at AN College under Magadh University will be built at a cost of Rs 1.59 crore and the fund has been granted by the state human resources development (HRD) department.

With the number of students increasing constantly, there was a need to start another administrative block on the college premises.

AN College had submitted the proposal to set up another administrative block on the campus. The state HRD department, after scrutinising the proposal, cleared it and sanctioned the funds. The new administrative block of the college will be fully computerised and centralised.

After laying the foundation stone, the governor said: “AN College has created a niche for itself not only nationally but even internationally.” He said: “AN College has emerged as a hub of learning for its high standard of education and many teachers want to get associated with the institute.”

As chancellor of universities in the state Konwar rarely visits colleges for attending function. AN College is the second institute in the state where he has attended an official function.

The function started with laying of the foundation stone followed by lighting of lamp and then a group of students sang the national anthem.

As the governor spoke, a group of NCC cadets, clad in half-sleeves uniform, shivered in the cold but stood on their positions. Neither the governor, nor the college administration seemed to take notice of their condition.

Addressing the function, principal of the college Haridwar Singh said: “AN College is one of the biggest college of the state with over 10,000 students, including 3,000 girls. Over 23 subjects are taught here apart from 11 business and commercial courses.”

The college has been ranked as A++ by NAT and a team will visit NAT soon for granting re-accreditation to the college. The college has also tied up with various international universities such as Cambridge University, University of Manchester as part of students exchange scheme. Many students of the colleges have visited Cambridge and University of Manchester for research works, similarly students from even African and other Asian countries are conducting research work at the college.

Vice-chancellor of Magadh University Arvind Kumar said: “Magadh University has been committed for bringing academic reforms and as part of the plan, the varsity will host inter-continental conference in coming months which will be attended by professors and academics from across the globe.”

The speakers present at the function praised the placement scenario for the varsity students and said that in recent times big organisations including Wipro, Cipla, Bajaj Allianz have visited the college premises.
