Cops zero in on rebel XI

Gaya, July 12: At least 11 cadres of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) were arrested at several places in the district and in Jharkhand late last evening.

The arrests were made from different places, including Dobhi and Barachatti in Gaya and Chatra in Jharkhand.

The police also recovered two firearms, besides live cartridges and explosives from the possession of the arrested persons.

Sources said the Maoists had assembled at Dobhi to chalk out plans of teaching a lesson to a villager who has been acting as a police informer.

Gaya city superintendent of police (SP) Ratnamani Sanjeev told The Telegraph the police recovered country-made revolver and pistol, six live cartridges of 315 bore and 15kg explosives from the possession of the arrested suspects.

A police team led by Sherghati deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mahendra Kumar Basantri conducted raids at different places under Dobhi and Barachatti police stations under Sherghati sub-division of Gaya and also in Chatra district in Jharkhand.

The DSP said: “Under Barachatti police station in Gaya Dharmendra Yadav and Praveen Kumar, residents of Dhangain village, Babloo Kumar, a resident of Lembogarha village, Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Kharne were arrested.”

He added: “Bholi Singh and Pintu from Amarut village and Sanjay Mandal of Kanjiyar under Dobhi police station in Gaya were arrested.”

He added that in Jharkhand Shiv Kumar Yadav of Bariyatu, in Chatra district in Jharkhand were nabbed. Dharmendra Rai of Karakat in Rohtas, Vikas Yadav of Lavalong, Chandan Singh, a resident of Nawadih were also nabbed in the raid, he added.

Basantri said the police acted on a tip-off of the five persons arrested from Dobhi — Babloo, Bholi, Vikas, Pintu and Chandan — after which the rest were nabbed.

Police sources said the arrested rebels were interrogated at a secret place on Monday evening.
