Naugachia, Aug. 3: Chottu Sahani (43), a native of Makhatakia village near Naugachia railway station, is the “most wanted man” now for Government Railway Police (GRP) investigating the Pritam Bhattacharjee murder case.
The GRP, which earlier suspected Chottu’s role in the case, has almost confirmed leads about his involvement in the Assam youth’s murder. According to a senior GRP officer, who is leading a team to conduct raids, the police interrogated two relatives of Chottu — Shanker Sahani and Suresh Sahani — on August 2.
Shanker had claimed that on July 17, Chottu came to his residence at Kishandaspur in Khagaria district to seek his help to evade arrest. Shanker revealed to the police that Chottu had told him that he, along with his gang members, had killed a student from Assam and dumped his body near a rail overbridge close to Kataria station.
“According to Shanker, Chottu was seeking help from him but after his refusal, he went to Suresh’s house at night,” the GRP officer said.
Suresh told the police that early morning the next day, Chottu disappeared from his house before his family members woke up. “Chottu disappeared from Makhatakia after July 10. Since then, he has been absconding. We have the information that he is changing locations,” the officer said.
