Munger: Chandramandi police station house officer Hemant Kumar and sub-inspector (SI) Narayan Thakur received minor splinter injuries when a bomb went off while removing the body of Chhotu Kumar, 35, a street vendor from a blast site at Chandramandi village under Chandramandi police station in Jamui district on Tuesday morning.
Maoists killed Chhotu by slitting his throat on Monday night. A resident of Lakhisarai district, Chhotu used to sell cashew nuts and raisins at the Chandramandi market," Jamui superintendent of police J. Reddy said. "The bomb-squad reached the site and successfully defused a live bomb wrapped on Chhotu's body. But a second bomb went off while they were removing Chhotu's body to send it to Jamui sadar hospital for post-mortem."
The injured SHO and SI were given first aid at a private clinic in Chandramandi market. "The Maoists knew the police would come to move Chhotu's body for post-mortem, so they wrapped two live bombs on his body after killing him. But the policemen miraculously escaped with minor splinter injuries," a police officer of Chandramandi police station said on condition of anonymity.
Jamui police have launched an operation to look for the Maoists.
