Patna: Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Rajan Prakash Thakur made a repeat inspection of Patna Junction on Saturday to ensure that the station is kept clean.
Thakur and other officials of the East Central Railway's (ECR) Danapur division started the inspection from the Karbighaiya end at 11.30am, where he found a police SUV parked in a no-parking zone.
The SUV was allowed to leave only after a penalty of Rs 250 was slapped with a warning to the driver. Thakur checked the demolition work of dividers being carried out on the Karbighaiya end. There is a plan to install steel barricading.
During the earlier inspection, Thakur had ordered the closure of the approach road of the Superspeciality Hospital for the vendor and other visitors but he found sacks filled with cement kept on one side and a stair fixed to the other side to cross over. The DRM immediately ordered removal of the sacks and the stair.
Thakur was accompanied by senior divisional engineer Pavan Kumar, senior divisional security commissioner (Railway Protection Force) C.M. Mishra, senior divisional commercial manager Vineet Kumar, senior divisional electrical engineer A.K. Arya, station director Nilesh Kumar and divisional engineer (headquarters) S.K. Sinha.
Thakur went to platform number 10 to check work on the new escalator and cleanliness. He found water leaking from the cooler and ordered its repair. Next was the waiting hall, where Thakur found the AC running but the window open. Thakur expressed his disappointment over such wastage of electricity and money. He also checked the area adjacent to the retiring room, where Bihar Military Police (BMP) jawans stay. Thakur ordered that once the present troops move, no other troops will be allowed to stay there.
Next, Thakur headed to check cleanliness on platform numbers 6 and 7. At platform number 1, he visited the Government Railway Police (GRP) office, where there is a plan to construct a two-storey building for the GRP and the RPF.
He enquired about the status of the plan and came to know that work had not begun because the exact place had not yet been decided. The DRM urged Patna superintendent of rail police (SRP) Ashok Kumar Singh to finalise the place after holding talks with the GRP and the RPF.
Thakur told The Telegraph: "The purpose is to keep everything perfect. Fans and escalators should work. We have to ensure that Patna Junction is on the list of top 20 railway stations in India. The level of visitors in Patna is different here and is not like Chandigarh, Mumbai and Delhi. So we have to work accordingly."
The Danapur division on Friday topped the list of punctuality with a rate of 91.66 per cent compared to the five other divisions of Sonepur, Samastipur, Danapur, Mughalsarai and Dhanbad.
The inspection ended at 2.30pm.
