Patna, Feb. 11: The Met department has some heart-warming news for the love-stuck. They will have an opportunity to flaunt their best woollens this Valentine’s Day.
The department has forecast that the ongoing cold spell, along with the wind chill, would continue till February 14, if not beyond.
According to Met officials, there would be no major changes in the weather pattern, except for a slight rise from the current temperature. The wind speed could drop from the present 8km/hour.
Ashish Sen, the director of Patna Met department, told The Telegraph: “A revival of cold weather spell has occurred across Bihar after a western disturbance hit the state and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh (UP) on February 7. As a result, it rained at many places in UP, while Bihar witnessed a cloud cover.”
He added: “On February 8, overcast skies prevented the heat of the earth to escape to the upper layers of the atmosphere, raising the minimum temperature and bringing down the maximum temperature. We were expecting the clouds to stay for a few more days, but they got cleared on February 9. This led to a sudden drop in the minimum temperature, from 13.8°C on Thursday to 6°C on Friday.”
He also said: “The temperature today rose slightly and the wind speed also came down. A rise of 1.1°C has been observed in the morning low as compared to yesterday’s temperature. The speed of the north-westerly winds also came down from yesterday’s 10kmph to 8kmph today. Marginal changes would be observed in weather conditions at least in the next two to three days.” Sen pointed out that Gaya remained the coldest place today with the minimum temperature standing at 5.8°C.
In the meantime, citizens are having a tough time braving the cold spell, especially the chilly wind. “The weather condition seems to have worsened in the past few days with the chilly wind blowing. There is a freezing effect whenever we are stepping outside. ” said Upendra Tiwari, a resident of Boring Road.
Respite is, however, not in sight, immediately at least. There is a possibility of another weather disturbance, which would first cause overcast conditions, followed by a rise in the minimum temperatures for a day or two, paving the way for another cold spell. “Another western disturbance is prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir. Normally, it takes around four days for such disturbances to have their effect in Bihar. Unless there is no deviation, it will hit the state capital on February 15. the minimum temperature would go above 13°C only after February 20,” said Sen.
For many, the cold wind has brought some good news. “I love winter and I’m really excited to know that the chill would persist till Valentine’s Day. I have selected the best of woollen garments that I have in my wardrobe and will wear them when I go out with my girlfriend on February 14,” said Amit Jha, a resident of Jagdeo Path.
