School and college students of Patna formed a human chain on Tuesday morning near Gandhi Maidan to celebrate Earth Day. Honouring the day’s theme, Green Cities, students of Arya Kanya Uchcha Vidyalaya, Mount Carmel High School, AN College and Xavier’s College of Education among other institutions went out with their call to save the environment. The human chain programme was held by non-government organisation Tarumitra. Those participating in the event advocated the introduction of electric autos in Patna. Driving an e-auto (battery operated) gifted to Tarumitra by Volt Motors, Shweta Marandi — a student associated with the organisation — iterated the benefits of using such vehicles that would protect the lungs of the people. Representatives of Autorickshaw Drivers’ Association accepted the keys of e-autos from Marandi, thanked the students for taking up the issue of pollution and promised them of persuading their fellows to rent out the e-autos on a daily basis.
