Persistent fight for justice has paid off for the widow of a CRPF officer.

Two years after officer Niranjan Kumar Singh was murdered and dumped on the tracks of Korbadha village in the district, chief judicial magistrate of Samastipur, Shivanand Mishra, on Monday recommended “further investigation through CBI” in the case. The court has also ordered all departmental benefits to be given to Niranjan’s widow Rashmi Kumari alias Rani Devi on immediate basis as per the department norms.

Niranjan, who was posted in Pune, was killed in 2010. Police recovered his body along the railway tracks and lodged a case of murder under Muffassil police station against unknown persons.

The final report against unknown persons was submitted before the court in October 2011 by the then station house officer and investigating officer, Ajit Kumar. Niranjan’s post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.

Rashmi could not name any suspect in the murder but decided to pursue the case to find the real culprits. Rashmi’s counsel Shiv Ram Chaudhary told The Telegraph: “I requested the court to recommend a CBI inquiry into the case as per the Supreme Court ruling in 2011, empowering the district courts to recommend independent inquiry by any investigating agency.”

Chaudhary added: “Niranjan’s father Nageshwar Prasad Singh was murdered the same way in 2009. The police had forced Nageshwar’s kin to cremate him without any post-mortem. No FIR was lodged in the case. All this smacks of a bigger conspiracy.”

SP Vinay Kumar Sinha said he has not received any court order yet.
