Patna High Court advocate Ram Sandesh Roy on Tuesday filed a criminal case against JD(U) legislator Sanjay Singh for allegedly using abusive and derogatory language against Lalu Prasad, a day after the Dal MLC did the same against the RJD chief.

The advocate, Ram Sandesh Roy, lodged the case against Singh at the chief judicial magistrate (CJM)’s court under sections 153(A) (promoting enmity between classes), 153(B) (imputation assertions prejudicial to national integration), 500 (defamation), 504 (intentional insult which intent to provoke breach of peace), 505(i) [statement conducing to public mischief known to be defamatory], 501 (printing engraving matter) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 of the Information and Technology Act. The hearing of the case would begin on Wednesday.

Roy in his complaint quoted Singh as saying: “Rajput Brahmin ka Lalu ne kiya apman (Lalu has insulted a Rajput Brahmin).” He said the statement of Singh was both abusive and derogatory.

He has also stated in his complaint that Singh and Sanjay Jha were not the representatives of Rajputs and Brahmins. He alleged that Singh wants to create tension among castes to reap political benefit.

Roy said Singh’s statement had mentally disturbed Lalu. It is defamation, insult and annoyance, he said, adding that it was also against the Constitution.

In another development, chief judicial magistrate Rama Kant Yadav recorded Singh’s solemn affirmation. The MLC supported his case before Yadav on Tuesday. The court fixed the next date of hearing on May 27.

Singh filed the case against Lalu on May 20.
