Patna: Patna Science College will open a canteen on the campus for the first time and provide refreshments at subsidised rates.

Principal Basant Kumar Mishra said: "We have invited tenders to open the canteen. The college administration has spoken to some hotel groups such as Pal. Our focus is to provide students and faculty members food and snacks at subsidised rates."

The institution has had no canteen the past five decades. The administration is hopeful that prominent hotels in the city will be interested in the project as the college will provide space and electricity connection.

Second-year physics student Kumar Utpal said: "In the absence of canteen and mess facilities in the hostels, students have to depend on roadside hotels or dhabas for lunch and dinner."

The college ground will also be renovated and a beautification drive undertaken on the premises.
