Patna, March 9: A book penned by the director of higher education of the state human resource development department has triggered a controversy. The minority community has called for a ban on its sale and publication.
The book titled Adhunik Bharat Mein Samajik Parivartan (Social Change in Modern India), written by J.P. Singh, allegedly has some wrong information on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, and Allma Iqbal, the great poet who composed Saare jahan se acchha.
Aslam Asthanvi, a senior Urdu journalist, said: “The book contained some wrong information about Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Allma Iqbal without any historical reference.”
The book allegedly contains objectionable statements about Allma Iqbal and his two-nation theory without any historical reference. The Urdu journalist said he had written to the state government several times to ban the book apart from a letter to the chief minister, but no action was taken. Asthanvi said if the government does not initiate any action against the book, they would stage an agitation, starting off with a dharna at Kargil Chowk and a march to the Raj Bhavan to press for imposing a ban on the book.
When The Telegraph tried to contact J.P. Singh, he disconnected the line.
