The only bus stand in Motihari is set to get a facelift by the end of the 2013-14 financial year.

The bus stand was constructed by the Motihari Municipal Corporation in 1992. Situated on the India-Nepal border, the bus stand lacks the basic amenities for passengers.

To be constructed on a par with bus stands in the metros, the project has a outlay of Rs 7 crore.

East Champaran district magistrate Vinay Kumar has asked the executive officer of the Motihari Municipal Corporation to prepare a detailed project report and submit it within the next seven days.

Commenting on the project, the executive officer of the municipal corporation, Mahendra Prasad Singh, said: “Two junior engineers have been assigned to prepare the detailed project report and once it is ready, it will be produced before the district magistrate.”

Singh said: “With the recommendations of the district magistrate, the detailed project report would be sent to the urban development department for its approval.”

Municipal corporation chief councillor Prakash Asthana said: “We are hopeful that the amenities of a bus stand would soon be available for the people of Motihari.”
