Teacherbail
Patna: A high court single bench of Justice P.K. Jha granted bail to Indu Anand (45), accused in the case of the alleged sexual assault of a 5-year old girl at St. Xaviers High School, Patna, on Thursday. The court granted bail saying there were no direct allegations against her in the incident that occurred on October 27, 2016.
Both the accused teachers - Indu Anand (45) and Nutan Joseph (35) - had been booked by police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and sent to jail.
Guard suicide
Patna: Sudama Mali, a homeguard jawan deputed at Sasaram jail in Rohtas district, committed suicide by shooting himself with a rifle on the jail premises on Thursday. Police said the incident took place at around 12.30pm, soon after he finished his duty. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Mali was depressed due to personal reasons.
Red arrest
Patna: Self-proclaimed Maoist leader Vijay Kharbar was arrested from Adhaura in Kaimur district on Thursday. Kaimur superintendent of police Harpreet Kaur said a rifle and 47 live cartridges were seized from his possession. Kharwar was wanted by Kaimur and Rohtas police for his involvement in Naxalite related incidents.
Rescue
Patna: Gaya police rescued 20 girls, allegedly victims of flesh trade, after three houses in Gaya town were raided on Thursday. Three unnamed persons, who had purportedly lured in girls from Bihar and other states, were also arrested during the drive.
Assault
Patna: Upendra Pandey, an eyewitness in a murder case, was allegedly burnt to death by influential residents in Narawat village under the jurisdiction of Atari police station in Gaya district on Wednesday night. Pandey's wife, Chinta Devi, has lodged an FIR with Atari police station against five persons.
Nabbed
Patna: Saran police, aided by Uttar Pradesh police, arrested Nitesh Singh from Lucknow's on Thursday. Nitesh, also known as Azad Hind Fauz, was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and was wanted for murder, kidnapping for ransom, attempt to murder and extortion in multiple districts.
Laurel for life
Patna: The Bihar Orthopaedic Association awarded the lifetime achievement award, 2017, to Dr Hari Ram Singh on Thursday. Acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court Justice Hemant Gupta presented the award to Singh for his contribution to orthopaedics.
Threat call arrest
Patna, March 2: Police today arrested Murli Manohar from Vaishali district who had threatened JDU lawmaker Sanjay Singh on February 27.
The police had constituted a team to nab Manohar. The team, during the course of investigation, came to know that Manohar was the owner of a magazine. Manohar admitted to his crime before the police, saying he had threatened Singh.
Skill centres
Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Thursday launched 14 new skill development centres under the skilled youth programme. With these new centres, the Patna district now has 43 such units where 1,780 youths are being trained. There is a proposal to open 283 more such centres.
