Rights panel order

Patna, April 6: Bihar human rights commission today directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the wife of Siddheshwar Prasad, who died when Gate number 10 of Gandhi Maidan fell on him.

His widow has no source of income and was provided an aid of Rs 20,000 by the government which the commission felt was inadequate.

RBI praise

Patna: Bihar Industries Association on Tuesday hailed the Reserve Bank of India's decision to cut the benchmark repo rate by 25 points to 6.5 per cent.

Naxalite fight

Gaya: Union additional home secretary Jaideep Govind (left in picture above by Suman) on Wednesday conducted a meeting in Gaya with senior Bihar and Jharkhand officials to discuss strategies for anti-Naxalite operations in the two states. Senior police officials of the ranks of additional director-general, inspector-general and deputy inspector-general apart from Central Reserve Police Force attended the meeting.

Agro funds

Patna: Nabard, the apex bank for agriculture and rural development, on Wednesday said the total financial support in Bihar during the 2015-16 fiscal was Rs 6,912 crore of which long-term refinance support for capital formation in agriculture and allied sectors to regional rural banks and commercial banks was Rs 3,220 crore as against Rs 2,157 crore during 2014-15, thereby registering a growth of 49 per cent. The move is expected to provide long-term benefits to the agriculture and allied sectors.

Maoists in net

Chhapra: Police on Wednesday caught two Maoists from Saran and Muzaffarpur. Superintended of police Pankaj Kumar Raj said a person from the CPI (Maoist) - had demanded a levy of Rs 25 lakh from Govardhan Sah, a goldsmith in Parsa, on March 27.

Sah had informed the police and a special team was formed which arrested Mukesh Sahni from Dadanpur and Sanjay Sahni from Sahila village in Muzaffarpur.

Fair exams

Patna: National Institute of Open Schooling-Patna regional director Sanjay Kumar Sinha on Wednesday said the ongoing board examinations were going on peacefully and no untoward incident had been reported from any of its centres till now.

DM pat

Chhapra: District magistrate Dipak Anand on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over performance of the sales tax department, excise department, district board and the nagar parshad in collection of revenue and recommended commendation certificates.

Pay plea

Chhapra: Mahachandra Prasad Singh, sitting MLC from Saran on Wednesday urged the chief minister to ensure timely payment to teachers at different colleges and universities. He also urged the government to appoint teachers to fill vacant posts.

NAAC visit

Darbhanga: T.T. Rao, chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council team and the former vice-chancellor of Osmania University, on Wednesday asked teachers of Marwari College on Wednesday to stress on research. Rao inspected the college and pointed out the lack of research facilities.

Award

Patna: Health secretary Jitendra Kumar Srivastava received a national award on behalf of the state at the National Family Planning Summit organised by the ministry of health and family welfare in Delhi on Tuesday for extraordinary work in the field of family planning in 2015-16.

Arrest

Bhagalpur: Passengers of the 13403 Up Vananchal Express caught two men - Anand Goshwami and Kanahiya Shaw of Ghogha in Bhagalpur - on Wednesdy morning near Vikramshila halt station on Bhagalpur-Sahabganj section. The two had looted the passengers and fired bullets in the train to spread panic when some passengers tried to resist them. All the stolen goods were recovered and the passengers handed them over to the railway protection force. No one was injured.
