HC orders benefits
Patna: The high court on Wednesday slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the state government for misleading the court in a case related to the promotion and other consequential benefits to Prem Kumar Sinha, an irrigation department official. Prem had alleged that he was denied promotion despite an earlier order of the court.
The high court bench of Justice Rakesh Kumar on Wednesday directed the chief secretary to file reply by May 4 in connection with a case related to awarding promotion and other benefits to one Harinandan Singh, an assistant at the secretariat.
Showcause
Patna: Police on Wednesday replied to a showcause notice served by the Patna High Court in connection with a case of domestic violence where a newly married girl was beaten up by her family members on the Patna civil court premises on March 1. Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj informed the court that the officers responsible for the incident had been suspended.
CPI protest
Patna: Communist parties including CPI, CPM and Forward Block on Wednesday condemned the incident where around 100 houses of the Mahadalit community was burnt at Kajia village in Nawada district, alleging that it was the work of those trying to create social and communal unrest.
RTI fine
Patna: The state information commission on Wednesday imposed a fine on the block development officer of Parsa, Saran, and the circle officer, Sampatchak, Patna, for failing to provide information sought under the Right To Information Act.
Demand for new rail line
Chhapra: Maharajganj BJP MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal on Wednesday raised the demand to lay a new railway line from Sitab Diara in Saran to Chakia in East Champaran district. He said Sitab Diara was the birthplace of Jaya Prakash Narayan and Champaran the workplace of Mahatma Gandhi and the new tracks would be a tribute to the great men.

Chhapra: Autorickshaw driver Saroj Dubey died on the spot and seven others were injured when a Siwan-bound bus hit the three-wheeler on State Highway 73 between Marhaura and Amnour around 9am on Wednesday.
Cane slur
Siwan: A teacher allegedly caned a middle school student at Orwan and hit him in the eye with a stick when he sought permission to attend to nature's call. The student's parents took their ward to the Mufassil police station to lodge an FIR against the teacher.

Motihari: The art and culture department has sought a proposal from the East Champaran administration for construction of an auditorium in the district, the public relations official concerned, Sudhir Kumar, said on Wednesday.

Patna: US Soybean Export Council on Wednesday organised a seminar on "Protein for All" at a city hotel on Wednesday. Athula Mahagamage, the representative for Sri Lanka, and Suresh Itapu, a member of American Soybean Association, gave presentations on protein and nutrition.
Cancer drugs
Patna: Mahavir Cancer Sansthan, in collaboration with the non-government organisation Cankids Kidscan, will provide free medicines to cancer patients aged up to 18 years. Earlier, the medicines were provided to kids aged up to 12 years.
