2 girls die in cave-in

Madhepura: Two children were buried alive and another injured after a mound of earth caved in on them in Palamgadhia village on Sunday.

The accident happened when the girls were digging soil for use at home. While Neelam (8) and Nanhki (9) were buried alive, an unidentified girl was critically injured, sub-divisional officer Sanjay Kumar Nirala said.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem and the injured was admitted to Sadar Hospital.

Mining drive

Sasaram: Over 100 illegal stone crushing machines were demolished by the Rohtas district administration on Sunday during a special drive at Gopibigha village under the jurisdiction of Dehri police station. Rohtas superintendent of police M.S. Dhillon said the drive would continue to check illegal mining in the district.

Rebel attack

Aurangabad: Maoists allegedly set a construction machine and other equipment on fire at Majuli village in Aurangabad district on Saturday night. Police said they torched the machines after the proprietor of the private firm refused to pay extortion money.

BJP jibe

Patna: The BJP on Sunday criticised the state government for not taking action in a case in which an undertrial had tried to commit suicide in a Darbhanga jail last week.

Patna: The district administration cancelled licences of nine public distribution shops for alleged irregularities committed by them.

Awareness

Patna: Around 50 ophthalmologists took part in a glaucoma awareness march organised by Bihar Ophthalmological Society in collaboration with Patna Ophthalmological Society at Kargil Chowk on Sunday to mark the Glaucoma Awareness Week.
