Directive to repair circuit-breakers
Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission on Monday directed the chief managing director of Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited to ensure that circuit-breakers and other preventive accessories are in place and operational at every grid stations/sub-centres in the state.
The order was passed by the human rights panel in a case related to administrative negligence leading to electrocution deaths of six children (8-10 years) at Chanda village in Jamui on January 30, 2014. South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), had constituted a three-member high powered committee to look into the incident and the committee in its report submitted its report to the BHRC stated that the circuit-breakers installed at the sub-station were non-functional at the time of the incident and that the wires of the transmission line were of low quality.
Power cut for maintenance
Patna: There would be power cut for three hours from 12noon on Tuesday in some areas, including Rajiv Nagar, Indrapuri, Keshri Nagar, Mahesh Nagar, Polson Road, Mithila Colony and Digha Chauhatta. Power supply would be cut for three hours from 11am in areas — Kharanja Road, RK Puram, Lekha Nagar, Judges Colony, Haroon Nagar, Bazar Samiti, Phulwari, Millat Colony, Birla Colony, Sudha Dairy, Minhaz Nagar, Ishopur, Kurkuri, Rai Chowk, Golistan Mohalla, Mahavir Cancer Hospital, Khankah and Emarat-e-Sharia.
Imprisonment
Patna: Special NDPS judge Danpal Singh awarded 10 years of imprisonment to Mohammed Israful and Marzam Sheikh, residents of Bengal’s Murshidabad district, under relevant sections of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on them. The convicted persons were earlier arrested on August 28, 2013, from Patna junction with packets of heroin weighing 460gm.
Awareness
Chhapra: Indian People’s Theatre Association national president Ranvir Singh on Sunday underlined the need of public awareness against the forces to dismantle the social fabric of the society. He was speaking on the occasion of 15th state conference of IPTA that concluded here. He lamented that corporate families and culture was destroying the cultural heritage of India and urged IPTA artistes to come forward and shoulder the responsibility of making the society a better place.
Birth anniversary
Patna: The birth anniversary of former Union minister late Jagjivan Ram was celebrated on Monday at Patna College. Principal N.K. Chaudhary presided over the function held in the seminar hall of the college. The teachers, students and employees took part in the event.
Driving camp
Gaya: The district magistrate on Monday inaugurated a free driving training camp for youths of Naxalite-affected Chhakarbandha, Dumaria, Imamganj and Bankebazaar areas of the district. After completing the 15-day training organised by the Punjab National Bank, the youths will either get job as driver or the bank will finance them so that they can purchase their own vehicles.
Donation
Gaya: Rotary Club district governor Ajay Khemka on Sunday donated 5,000 books for the library of Jeanamitabh School in Bodhgaya. Rotary Gaya secretary Priye Ranjan Dwer said earlier also books were donated in two government schools at Kujapi.

Motihari: District health society in collaboration with Unicef organised a workshop on Monday to generate awareness about mission Indradhanush that aims to immunise children and mother.
Jaitley meets ministers
Patna: Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Monday convened a meeting of ministers from Bihar in the Narendra Modi cabinet to discuss the issue to grant special assistance to Bihar on the lines of what was earlier given to the newly formed Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from Union ministers from Bihar, the meeting was also attended by Union HRD minister Smriti Irani, Niti Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya, Nripendra Misra, the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, former Rajya Sabha member N.K. Singh and others. The outcome of the meeting, however, was not available till late evening.
Suspension
Bhagalpur: Jamalpur superintendent of railway police (SRP) Umashankar Prasad has suspended an assistant superintendent of police-rank officer, Vikram Roy, of Sheikhpura GRP for allegedly hanging an unidentified body from a lamppost near Sheikhpura railway station. Roy pleaded with Arun Kumar Dubey, deputy superintendent of GRP, Kiul, who rushed to Sheikhpura on April 5 for preliminary investigation, that he was forced to do so for identification of the body within 72 hours. Roy added that since the GRP did not have any facility of preserving such bodies, he ordered it to be hanged to prevent dogs from attacking it.
BJP barb
Patna: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav on Monday slammed JDU and RJD leaders for “disturbing the communal harmony” in the state. Yadav said the leaders for their political gains are unnecessarily raising a 13-year-old issue, read the Gujarat riots. Yadav’s reaction comes in the wake of a few JDU and RJD leaders’ recent statement where they slammed BJP national president Amit Shah for the 2002 communal riots.

Gaya: One Kaushlendra Narayan, the state president of Swabhiman Party, filed a complaint in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Gaya, on Monday against Union minister Giriraj Singh for his sexist comments on Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Mishra bail
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Monday granted bail to former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra, who on March 19 surrendered to a CBI court after being in a hospital on interim bail since his conviction in a fodder case.
