Prison action

Patna: Disciplinary action is likely to be initiated against the superintendent of Chhapra divisional jail, Satyendra Kumar, on the recommendation of Saran district magistrate Deepak Anand for allowing the inmates to organise a cultural show inside the prison last week.

Anand said a detailed report in this regard has been sent to inspector-general (prison directorate and correctional services) Prem Singh Meena.

League win

Patna (PTI): Junior Army Football Club (Lucknow) defeated BSF (Jalandhar) 2-0 in a Pool A league match, while SSB Siliguri were held to a 2-2 draw by the State Bank of Travancore, Kerala, in Pool B of the all-India football tournament, Bihar Cup, on Wednesday.

Assault FIR

Motihari: Police have lodged an FIR against Dinesh Prasad, the headmaster of a government middle school in Govindganj, for allegedly thrashing three students.

Divas review

Motihari: East Champaran district magistrate Jitendra Kumar Shrivastava chaired a review meeting on Wednesday to assess the preparations for Bihar Divas programmes scheduled to be held on March 22.

Flu count reaches 235

Patna, March 18: Twenty fresh positive cases of swine flu were reported at Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS), the nodal centre for the virus test in the state, on Wednesday.

The number of swine flu cases in the state has gone up to 235.

Power alert

Patna: There would be a power cut of three hours on Thursday from 11am in SK Nagar, Kidwaipuri, IAS Colony, Daroga Rai Path and others. There would be a power cut of two hours from 11am in SK Puri, Anandpuri, Boring Canal Road and Nehru Nagar. Saidpura, Badi Khagaul, Chhoti Khagaul, Millat Colony, Birla Colony and Ishopur would face a power cut of three hours from 12noon owing to maintenance. There would be another power cut for three hours from 2pm in Beur, Makhdoompur and SK Bihar Colony.

Increment cut

Patna: The Centre has ordered a cut in the increment of senior IAS officer C.K. Anil after allegations levelled at senior IAS officer Afzal Amanullah were found to be untrue and baseless. Anil, then posted as secretary, grievance redressal cell of the chief minister's secretariat, had made allegations against Amanullah, then posted as cabinet coordination department principal secretary, in 2010.

HC summons

Patna: The high court on Wednesday summoned the education principal secretary in a case related to taking away recognition of Aadarsh Sanskrit High School, Rajnagar, Madhubani in June 2002. It had earlier directed the principal secretary to conduct an inquiry into the matter and file a counter affidavit in this connection.

Exam fraud

Patna: Around 200 students were caught using unfair means in Bihar School Examination Board matriculation mathematics examination across the state on Wednesday.
