Patna: Summer will make its fury felt this week, and the temperature might touch the 40°C mark or even go beyond it in the city.

To make matters worse, there is no weather system in sight that could bring rain or thunder - at least in the next four-five days.

Dry westerly winds are likely to blow, which would not only lead to the mercury rising but also lower the relative humidity.

"According to our analysis of the prevailing weather conditions, the city would witness dry and stable weather in coming four-five days as no system is visible which could lead to sudden change in the local weather conditions," said Patna Met office meteorologist Sandeep Kumar.

The westerly winds will blow at a speed of 15 to 20km per hour, particularly in the afternoons.

"The day temperature may touch 40°C or even cross it in the coming two-three days," Sandeep said.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Patna crossed 39°C for the first time this summer. It was two degrees above the normal.

"For the first time this summer I felt the dry heat when I went out with my family to the market," said Ashiana Nagar resident Jaiprakash Kumar.

He said he had to cut short his outing because of the heat.

"We had planned to visit Eco Park but we came back immediately after finishing shopping as the children were feeling thirsty and even my wife refused to be in the open at the park," Jaiprakash said.

The only hope of some comfort from the summer heat is a western disturbance, which was hovering over Pakistan on Sunday.

"We are keeping any eye on the movement of this system and if it advances at the desired pace, Patna and some other parts of Bihar may witness cloudy conditions around Friday," Sandeep said.

He, however, pointed out that the system was not likely to bring much relief because the cloud cover was not likely to be very thick or bring heavy rainfall.
