Bowled out of Vijay Hazare

Patna: Bihar has been left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting February 5 despite a Supreme Court directive to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow the state to play Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy, which started in 2002-03, is a limited-overs domestic tournament involving state teams.

The BCCI selects players for the national squad based on their performance in the Ranji, Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophies.

The Supreme Court on January 4 directed the BCCI to allow Bihar to play Ranji and other domestic tournaments in the larger interest of cricket.

As Bihar has been left out, the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), one of the associations that are fighting for full membership, has decided to write to the Committee of Administrators (COA) with "objection to misconduct" at the hands of the CEO and acting secretary of the BCCI.

CAB secretary Aditya Verma said: "According to the Supreme Court directive, the BCCI was asked to allow Bihar to participate in the Ranji and other domestic tournaments. But to our dismay, the BCCI is going to organise the limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy from February 5 but the board once again ignored the poor cricketers of Bihar for the Vijay Hazare Trophy."

Though Verma is blaming the BCCI for not inducting Bihar into the tournament, sources in the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), the associate member of the BCCI, said the state has been left out because Bihar is yet to form a team.

An official with the BCA said: "The Supreme Court order came on January 4 and the BCA is conducting trial sessions at the district level for the constitution of a state cricket team. The state team will be constituted based on the performance of players in Under-23, Under-19 teams and other tournaments."

Sources said though Bihar has been left out from Vijay Hazare Trophy, players from the state would participate in other tournaments.

Wicketkeeper-batsman and Patna boy Ishan Kishan will lead the Jharkhand side in the absence of M.S. Dhoni.

The CAB secretary said the BCCI and the chairman of the IPL have also violated the apex court order in selection of players for the IPL.

Verma said: "According to the IPL policy, the BCCI has asked all the state associations to propose names of players only for registration in the IPL 2018. But neither the BCCI nor the chairman of the IPL sent any letter to the current body of Bihar for registration of players for the IPL 2018."

The Jharkhand Cricket Association proposed Kishan's name.
