Artistes perform at an event in Motihari on Friday to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Sugauli treaty. The treaty of Sugauli is also known as the bond that established the Nepal borders and was signed on December 2, 1815. It was later ratified on March 4, 1816 between the East India Company and the King of Nepal after the Anglo-Nepal War of 1814-16. The treaty called for territorial concessions in which parts of Nepal were given to the British. It established a British representative in Kathmandu, and allowed Britain to recruit Gurkhas into military service. BJP leader and former MP Sabir Ali inaugurated Friday's event, organised by residents. Journalist Arvind Mohan was the main speaker.A souvenir was also released by the Sugauli Press Club.
