Patna, June 30: A 13-year-old girl allegedly poisoned her father and younger brother to death perceiving them to be a hurdle in her affair with a man in Vaishali district late last night.
The incident occurred at Malpur village in Patepur, about 80km northeast of Patna.
The accused is a Class IX student at a local government school. Her mother is undergoing treatment at a local government hospital.
The woman told the police that her 13-year-old daughter, whose name The Telegraph is withholding, laced vegetables with poison and served it to her father, Shanker Mahto (35), and brother, Vikas Kumar (12), as dinner around 10pm. Both of them started vomiting around 2am and were subsequently rushed to a local hospital.
They, however, died before reaching the hospital.
The girl’s father was a farmer while her younger brother was a Class VII student at the local government school.
“I survived because I had not taken my meal at night,” the police said quoting the girl’s mother.
The station house officer (SHO) of Patepur police station, Suman Kumar, said the girl was having an affair with one Vijay Kumar, a resident of Mahua.
The duo got to know each other when Vijay visited his aunt, who is a neighbour of the accused.
The girl’s parents opposed Vijay’s visit to the village. He was even beaten up allegedly by them about a month ago when he attempted to elope with the girl, sources said.
“That time, the panchayat had warned the boy’s aunt and asked her not to allow him to visit her again,” the girl’s mother said.
The boy stopped meeting the girl for about a fortnight.
“But three days ago, he came to his aunt’s house and hatched a conspiracy to get the girl’s parents and brother eliminated. The boy provided her with the poison and asked her to mix it with the food served to the family members as dinner,” the SHO said. The girl had allegedly visited Shanti’s house on Friday evening.
“I wanted to teach my daughter a lesson after she returned home,” she said, adding that this might have provoked the girl to commit the crime. The SHO said traces of a substance had been collected from the victims’ house and sent to the forensic laboratory for tests.
“She has also confessed to her crime. She was arrested and produced in Hajipur civil court. It remanded her in judicial custody for two weeks,” the police officer told The Telegraph over phone.
Vijay and her relative are absconding after the incident.
“We have carried out raids at various places to arrest them,” the SHO said, adding that the incident was a fall-out of a love affair.
The girl said Vijay had given her the poison and asked her to mix it with the food served to the family members at night. “I did what my boyfriend had asked me to,” she said.
