Gopalganj, Nov. 14: Former chief minister Nitish Kumar continued his rhetoric against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the second day of his Sampark Yatra in the district.
He called the BJP a party that spreads rumours, breaks the fibre of fraternity and harmony and divides society at different levels. “BJP leaders only cry hoarse and do nothing,” said Nitish, while trying to put Prime Minister Modi on the dock on several issues.
He was addressing a district-level political conference at Minz stadium on Friday.
In a near repeat of his performance in Bettiah and Motihari on Thursday, Nitish tried to prove that Narendra Modi was a bundle of contradictions and a man who made false promises.
He made the people listen to the tapes of Modi making tall claims and then question- ed the fulfilment of the promises.
“Has the black money deposited with foreign banks been brought back and the each poor person given Rs 15 lakh? Hundred days have passed. Now, the respected Modiji, in Mann ki Baat programme tells that he was unaware of the details of the black money. Then, how did he make a promise?” asked Nitish.
Upping the ante, Nitish said: “Unemployed youths were promised jobs but now appointments have been stopped for one year. Assurances regarding special care, special attention, special package and special status to Bihar have also evaporated. What did the 56-inch-wide chest do when Chinese forces intruded into Indian territory during the visit of its Premier to India? The ceasefire was violated more times on the India-Pakistan border during his tenure than the previous one.”
“Please show something. Work a bit at least, Modiji, because you had assured the sky to the people,” Nitish stressed before adding: “Give at least Rs 50,000 crore as package at the very outset and do not forget the assurances you made in context of Bihar.”
Underlining the work done by his government, Nitish said he had laboured hard to bring Bihar from the ditch of backwardness. “It treaded on the path of development with justice and emerged as one of the fastest growing states. Law and order was established and respect and importance to Bihar and Biharis restored,” he said.
“The special status category is the right of Bihar and JDU has been waging a struggle for it. We have brought up Bihar from the lowest of depths and would not allow it to slip again,” said Nitish.
“States flourish most when government of opposition parties rule at the Centre. Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar all developed a lot at the time of Congress rule at the Centre. So please, don’t get misguided,” he appealed.
Nitish pleaded with people to repose confidence in him as he would not allow the state to relapse and law and order to be compromised at any cost.
