Patna: A day after the state government released Rs 36.13 lakh as compensation for people who were hit during communal clashes on Ram Navami in Aurangabad, Nalanda and Samastipur districts last month, the BJP on Friday claimed that the administration had adopted a soft approach towards the minority community in the affected places and had arrested a large number of people from the majority community.
The party also claimed that such incidents took place only because some anti-social elements from the minority community had provoked people from the majority community who turned aggressive after such acts.
A BJP delegation, led by chief whip in the Assembly Arun Kumar Sinha and office-bearers from Aurangabad, Nalanda and Samastipur, submitted a memorandum to director-general of police (DGP) K.S. Dwivedi.
The delegation, which included Bihar BJP vice-president Devesh Kumar, provided the party's version of the flare-ups in Aurangabad, Rosera in Samastipur, and in Nalanda.
The BJP memorandum claimed that a procession of Ram Navami devotees was attacked in Aurangabad on March 25 with stones, bullets and bombs.
A meeting of Aurangabad MP Sushil Kumar Singh was attacked on March 26 after which people from the majority community became aggressive, the memorandum claimed.
According to the memorandum, anti-social elements from the minority community had attacked Ram Navami processions in Nalanda's Silao and Rosera in Samastipur and indulged in provocative acts following which people from the majority community turned aggressive.
The memorandum also named a few individuals from the minority community claiming that they were seen hurling bombs and firing guns.
The BJP, in its memorandum, had demanded that all innocent people be released and such persons should not be arrested in future.
The party has also demanded a high-level probe against officials who the BJP claims adopted a "biased" approach during the incidents.
The Bihar government, of which the BJP is a part, has, however, been praising the local administrations in the affected districts for their handling of the flare-ups.
