Muzaffarpur, Jan. 10: Four criminals accused of stealing motorcycles were arrested during a raid conducted at various places in the town late last night.

Police found three motorcycles and two firearms, including a sophisticated Italy-made pistol, on them.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar said personnel of two special teams arrested the four.

They were identified as Mohammed Nasir, Mohammed Shamshad, Mohammed Ali and Munna Paswan, alias Ajay, from Ahiyapur, Bhagwatipur and Parbhatnagar areas.

He added that the four were wanted in various cases lodged with the Sadar, Ahiyapur and Kazi Mohammadpur police stations.

The SSP further said the Italy-made 7.65mm pistol, along with some bullets, was found on Nasir.

The police claimed that the criminals, during interrogation, admitted to stealing motorbikes and hurling bombs outside business establishments in market areas to scare traders and extort them.

On January 2, six members of an inter-district gang involved in lifting vehicles were nabbed near Mithanpura Chowk.

However, the kingpin of the gang, Naiar Imam, had managed to flee.

Seven cellphones, two firearms, five knives, sickles, hammers and iron tools used in breaking steering locks of cars were found from their possession.

The police had then intercepted an SUV, bearing a registration number of Nagaland and carrying seven persons, near Mithanpura police station in the district.
