A gang of bike-borne criminals looted Rs 70,000 from a teenaged girl travelling on a rickshaw at Garikhana under Khagaul police station, around 13km from the state capital.

Neha Sharma, 16, and her uncle, Sudhir Sharma, went to Bank of India to withdraw the amount. Thereafter, Sudhir asked Neha to go home with the money on a rickshaw, while he started cycling home.

“Around 2pm, the girl was headed to her Khagaul Colony Mor residence when five men on two motorcycles suddenly intercepted her. Before she could raise an alarm, the men pointed pistols at her. One of them snatched her bag containing the money and two mobiles before speeding away on the bikes. Later, an FIR was lodged at Khagaul police station in this connection,” a police officer said.

The police said investigations were on.

“The bank is located at a distance of around 2km from her residence. It seems sure that the men knew that the girl had withdrawn the money and hence, targeted her. They were following her all the time. The connivance of some officials of the bank cannot be ignored too,” the police officer added.

The officer said the bank had CCTV cameras. “We will check the CCTV footage to track any suspicious person on the premises at the same time,” the officer said.

On March 27 evening, two armed men looted Rs 1.9 lakh from a businessman, Vikas Gautam, from Kurji Mor area under Patliputra police station. The man was on his way to a bank from his Nasriganj office to deposit the money on his motorcycle when he was intercepted by two men on another bike. They held a pistol to his head and snatched the money before speeding away.

Patna City superintendent of police Kim said a team has been formed to look into the case. “Work on the case is on and a team has been formed. Nothing more can be said about the investigation at the moment,” the officer told The Telegraph.

On December 8 last year, two motorcycle-borne men snatched Rs 50,000 from a 63-year-old man who was on his way after withdrawing the amount from a bank located near Ara roundabout under Danapur police station.
