Banker killed

Patna: Private bank employee Dinesh Prasad was shot dead at Kharpura Bairagi in Gaya district late on Monday night. Police said the assailants attacked Dinesh (28), who was posted in Calcutta, when he was attending a wedding function of his brother Mukesh Kumar. He died at Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital.

Exam papers

Patna: A high court single bench on Tuesday directed the government and Bihar School Examination Board to reply within a week to allegations that matriculation examination copies were being evaluated by unqualified and inexperienced teachers.

IPS transfers

Patna: Deputy inspector-general of Magadh range Saurabh Kumar was transferred to Purnea range and Manju Jha, DIG, (rail) was transferred to Munger range as part of two transfers notified by the home department on Tuesday. Saurabh has also been given additional charge of the Kosi range. Rajesh Kumar, who was earlier posted as DIG-central range (Patna), will hold additional charge of Magadh range.

Owaisi relief

Patna: The high court single bench of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on Tuesday granted relief to All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi, staying a Hajipur lower court order directing him to personally appear in a hate speech case.

Meet

Patna: A daylong national executive-cum-workers conference of the All India Backward Classes Federation will be held in Patna on May 21. Dr S.N. Arya will inaugurate it.

Left protest

Patna: The CPI will launch two statewide agitations against unemployment and general problems being faced by the society in July and October this year respectively. A two-day "satyagraha" will be organised at all the collectorates in the first week of October.

Rape arrest

Sheohar: Four youths were arrested on Tuesday on the charge of gang-raping a newly-wed woman near Dostian village under Purnahia police station in Sheohar district on April 28. The motorbike-borne criminals had kidnapped the woman and raped her when she was going to meet her relative at Riga in Sitamarhi district.

Murder cuffs

Buxar: Rajpur police arrested Vishwambhar Paswan for the murder of three members of a family at Baswar village under Brahmapur police station in the district on April 1. Police said a middle aged woman and her two children were killed after she allegedly refused to have physical relationship with the accused.

Faculty

Patna: The education department issued a directive on Tuesday to fill vacancies of assistant professors in psychology and economics subjects. The department passed the directive after the Bihar Public Service Commission submitted the list of successful candidates in the two subjects. In psychology, 118 candidates will be appointed, while 214 candidates will be appointed for economics.

Maoists held

Gaya: Gaya police and the CRPF arrested three Maoists - Visheshwar Bharti, Chhotu Bharti and Ashok Kumar -from Latua police station area on Tuesday. Police also recovered a large quantity of explosives, Naxalite literature and live cartridges.

Extortion call

Saharsa: Banma Itahari block development officer Randhir Prasad received a threat to his life from an extortionist over phone on Tuesday. He lodged a complaint with Bariyarpur police station.
