Commissioner suspends officer
Munger: Munger commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh on Wednesday suspended Suryagarha circle officer Subhash Prasad, employee Bijoy Kumar Sharma and removed the sub-inspector of Suryagarha police station, Suresh Rajak, for dereliction of duty in the alleged Mahadalits’ house burning case.
The commissioner also ordered the district magistrate of Lakhisarai to recommend to the state government for dismissal of the circle officer (Suryagarha) Subhash Prasad for manipulating papers of land-records, leading to clashes and brewing tension between Mahadalits and the strongmen of the village at Mahmadpur village under the jurisdiction of Suryagarha police station in Lakhisarai district on January 13.
Medicine trader shot at
Bettiah: Criminals fired from close range on a medicine trader, Bablu Kumar, injuring him while he was on his way back home from his shop near local Naznin Chowk late on Tuesday evening. His condition is serious. No arrests have been made so far.
Accident
Ara: A 19-year-old boy was crushed to death on Wednesday by a speeding tractor at Bahiro village under the jurisdiction of Nawada police station in Bhojpur. His body was brought to the sadar hospital for post mortem. Residents blocked the road for hours to protest the death. The block development officer gave Rs 20,000 to the victim’s family.
Transfer
Patna: Prabhu Ram, additional commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation, was on Wednesday transferred and posted as additional secretary of the agriculture department. Earlier, Vishwanath Choudhary, director (administration), agriculture department, was holding the additional charge.
Facilities jab
Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav charged the Manjhi government of trying to keep the state deprived of basic amenities. He was commenting on the government’s action of increasing the state tax on diesel.
Anniversary
Purnea: Purnea divisional administration on Wednesday celebrated its 25th anniversary at Indira Gandhi stadium here. Chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh inaugurated the function. Plantation, sports and other cultural functions were organised.
Protest march
Ara: CPI(ML) activists took out a march in connection with the alleged rape of an elderly woman on Tuesday at Pipahariya village of Bhojpur. Superintendent of police Akhtar Hussain assured the protesters that a speedy trial would be conducted and the accused will be arrested soon.
Food directive
Patna: Food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak on Wednesday instructed the officials concerned to procure foodgrains one month in advance from the districts during the state level departmental review meeting. The instruction was given under new calendar of Food Security Act so the that the beneficiaries should not face any problem. He also instructed that February foodgrains should be procured in January itself.
Minor rape
Katihar (PTI): A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and left in critical condition at Morsanda village in Katihar district on Wednesday. One Kamlesh Kumar Ravidas (18) of the same village has been arrested in this connection.
