Kids drown in freak accident

Purnea: Three children drowned after they slipped into a drain in the Bhawanipur Bazar area of Purnea district on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as 10-year-old Saurav Kumar, his eight-year-old brother Gaurav Kumar — residents of Paswan Tola under the jurisdiction of Bhawanipur police station, 354km northeast of Patna — and nine-year-old Sakshi Kumari, a resident of Bhawanipur Bazaar.

The children were trying to escape lightning when they slipped into the drain around 9am.

Dowry death complaint

Chhapra: A resident of Gavandri village in Saran district, Keshav Kumar, lodged an FIR at Taraiya police station on Monday, accusing his daughter Julie’s husband and in-laws of killing her for dowry. Julie was found hanging at her in-law’s house in Chhapra around 8am on Monday. Keshav alleged that her husband, Amit Kumar, a software engineer based in Bangalore, and his parents murdered Julie and hanged her. The in-laws are absconding, police said.

Two held

Siwan: Two criminals, identified as Riyazuddin Khan and Pappu Yadav, were arrested from Hathgai village under the jurisdiction of Barharia police station in the district on Monday morning. Police found two countrymade pistols, four live cartridges and four cellphones from them.

HC order

Patna: The Patna High Court division bench on Monday directed the urban development department to provide Patna Municipal Corporation all facilities, including staff and engineers, in order to comply with the court’s order to stay construction work of buildings deemed illegal by it.

Trader shot

Siwan: Rajesh Gaur, a cloth trader, was shot dead on Sunday night near Baghauni village under the jurisdiction of Hussainganj police station in Siwan district. Amit Srivastav, who was accompanying him, was injured. Police said Rajesh and Amit were going to Ander block in the district on a motorbike, when around 8pm, three criminals, on another bike, overtook them and opened fire at the duo.

Boy free

Gopalganj: Rohit, alias Rahul (12), who was abducted three days ago, was recovered from Siwan railway station on Sunday night. Rohit was abducted on Friday when he was going to school.

Gherao

Gopalganj: A group of villagers on Monday blocked Rajendra Chowk in Mirganj after clashes with another group over a procession. The villagers assaulted shopkeepers and gheraoed the personnel of Mirganj police station. The gherao was on till the filing of the report.
