Assets heat on govt official, wife
Patna: Special vigilance judge Nand Kumar Srivastava on Thursday ordered former Aurangabad motor vehicles inspector Raghuvansh Kunwar and his wife Lalita Devi to hand over their disproportionate assets to the district magistrate concerned immediately.
The court, on the other hand, directed the district magistrate of Patna to take possession the couple's ill-gotten property within a month from the date of the order passed by the court. Kunwar has been accused of accumulating disproportionate assets worth Rs. 49.87 lakh. The couple, according to the confiscation petition filed by Vigilance Investigation Bureau owned properties in cash, gold biscuits, jewellery and immovable properties in Patna.
Graft cuffs
Patna: State vigilance bureau officials on Thursday nabbed Srikant Rajak, an assistant electrical engineer posted at Nathnagar in Bhagalpur, while accepting a bribe of Rs 29,000. The engineer had demanded the illegal gratification in lieu of giving electricity connection to one Jagannath Shah for setting up a flour mill.
Blood bank
Patna: Bank of Baroda organised blood donation camps at six places across Bihar and Jharkhand, including Sitamarhi and Purnea. A Bank press note on Thursday said it was going to start Bank of Baroda voluntary blood donation group that would provide help to Indian Red Cross Society to promote voluntary blood donation.
Party switchover
Gopalganj: The JD(U) MP from Gopalganj, Purnmasi Ram, will contest the parliamentary election from Gopalganj constituency on an RJD ticket. He announced it at a news meet. Ram had been expressing displeasure against chief minister Nitish Kumar of late and was suspended from the party on Wednesday. Reacting to the disciplinary taken against him by the JD(U), Ram said he was happy as he did not want to stay with Nitish anymore. He claimed many Dal MPs and MLAs would soon join the RJD.
Shooting honour
Patna: Kumar Divya, a resident of Jamui, won a gold medal in 10m air rifle Shooting event (junior) in the third edition of Gun for Glory, held at Pune from September 25 to October 2. A Bihar State Rifle Association press note on Tursday said Divya scored 382 out of 400.
Revenue target
Patna: The district transport office has generated 20 per cent more revenue than the target for September. District transport officer Kapileshwar Mandal shared on Thursday said the department had achieved Rs 1.51 crore against the target of Rs 1.26 crore.
Sentence
Patna: Additional district and sessions judge Ramesh Chandra Singh on Thursday sentenced 10 persons, including Ramesh Bind and Kameshwar Bind, to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of one Lalita Devi during a robbery on July 11, 2001. The deceased Lalita and the accused belong to the same village Barbigha under Dhanarua police station.

Patna: Members of Co-ordination Committee of Trade Unions And Associations, Bihar, on Thursday organised a public meeting to raise issues concerning the working class. Speakers claimed workers were facing troubles owing to various kinds of steps being taken against them in the name of globalisation.

Patna: Heart Hospital, Patna, conducted a successful bypass surgery on a thalassemia patient by using cell server, a gadget, which purifies the blood of the person on whom surgery is conducted thus allowing the same blood to be transfused.
