New LIC rules to prevent fraud
Patna: Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has made submission of proof of identity/residence mandatory at the point of delivering different policy services or policy proceeds.
For different policy servicing functions such as change of address, first-time nomination or change in nomination, assignment/reassignment, revival of lapsed policy, issue of duplicate policy or settlement of claim without original policy document, alteration in policy by way of change in plan/term/sum assured, other alterations transfer of policy records etc, the submission of proof of identity and residence is compulsory.
Similarly, for getting financial services such as loan/further loan payment, surrender payment, maturity payment, death claim payment-proof of identity and residence have to be submitted. The steps would guard against the chances of frauds or cheating of policy holder or the corporation.
