Fog terminates four trains

Patna: East Central Railway has short-terminated the movement of four Passenger trains from January 8 to 31 owing to foggy conditions.

The 55203 Narkatiaganj-Gorakhpur Passenger would run up to Kaptanganj. The 55206 Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj would originate from Kaptanganj. The 55209 Muzaffarpur-Gorakhpur Passenger would run up to Narkatiaganj and 55042 Gorakhpur-Sonepur Passenger train would originate from Narkatiaganj, East Central Railway sources said on Wednesday.

Bridge work speeds up

Patna: Work on the Sonepur-Digha rail-cum-road bridge across the Ganga is on in full swing. East Central Railway sources said on Wednesday while the construction of all the 36 pillars have been completed, work on 25 of the 36 spans have also been completed. The bridge is likely to be ready by March 2015.

Admission

Patna: The admission process of Gyan Niketan School has started. School sources said on Wednesday admissions between LKG and Class VII in both the boys’ and girls’ wings of the school can be obtained by a paying a registration fee of Rs 600.

Cold shield

Patna: The district administration has taken steps for arranging bonfires at important points of the city to provide relief to people facing severe cold conditions.

BJP claim

Patna: The BJP on Wednesday claimed that the much publicised agriculture roadmap of the state government has got derailed. The party sources said the testimony to this fact was that not a single meeting of agriculture cabinet had taken place in last seven months.

Appointment

Patna: Ravindra Kumar Rai, the Indian Revenue Service officer of 1977 batch, will take over the charge of chief commissioner of income tax, Bihar and Jharkhand. The post has been lying vacant for the past eight months. The officer of Calcutta and Siliguri regions has been holding the post as additional charge. Before appointment in Patna, Rai was posted in Mumbai as chief commissioner (IT) II.

Body found

Katihar: The body of a 50-year-old man, identified as Jaikant Sah, was recovered on Wednesday from bushes near Singhla Tola. The deceased was a resident of Laliyahi Tola. The body, after post-mortem at the sadar hospital, was handed over to the deceased’s family.

Theft arrest

Patna: Three persons were arrested on Wednesday for theft. The police said jewellery and cash worth lakhs and home furnishing items were recovered from their possession.

Review meet

Patna: Chief secretary A.K. Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the law and order situation in the state through video-conferencing.

Inauguration

Patna: Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences director A.K. Chouhan on Wednesday inaugurated a 16-bed emergency ward and two emergency operating theatres on the campus.

Panel to look into doc negligence

Patna: The Bihar State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday directed the director-in-chief of state health services to constitute a committee to look into a case of medical negligence against Dr Ranjit Kumar of Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district.

The complainant has alleged negligence on Kumar’s part while performing a hysterectomy on a patient.

The committee, comprising doctors, will also give its opinion on why Kumar’s licence should not be cancelled.

The commission’s acting chairman, Neel Mani, issued the directive after a complaint filed by one Ram Narayan Singh.

The director-in-chief has to submit the report latest by February 28.

Bribery cuffs

Patna: State vigilance investigation bureau sleuths on Wednesday arrested Harishankar Prasad, a programme officer of Gaunaha in West Champaran district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 in lieu of releasing measurement book for a work done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

First surgery

Patna: Udyan Hospital has earned the distinction of conducting the first discectomy (the surgical removal of herniated disc material that presses on a nerve root) in the city. The surgery was conducted on the patient’s lumbar disc, helping him regain strength in his leg and foot.

Condolence

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday mourned the death of former MLC Ramkaran Sahni and hailed him a true socialist.
