Villagers demand police camp shift
Jamui: Residents of Bamdha village on Jamui-Chakai road went on an indefinite bandh on Thursday demanding the administration to shift a police camp in the area, allegedly under pressure from Maoists.
On February 6, Maoist posters were found pasted on the houses in the village. The posters gave the villagers an ultimatum to convince the administration to shift the police camp within 15 days.
In 2006, the villagers had started a movement to establish a police camp (BMP-9) after rebels killed four people in two separate incidents. Over the past few years though, the villagers have started opposing the camp under pressure of the Maoists. Last December, too, they had observed a three-day bandh for shifting the camp.
amui superintendent of police Jitendra Rana said: “We know why the rebels create pressure on the villagers but it is not possible for us to dance to the tune of the Maoists. The camp would not be shifted. The villagers should not be frightened.”
